Hot wedge welder is a portable tool used by engineers and technicians during dam liner installations to carry out dam liner welding or joining. The hot wedge welder is one of the best tools used in engineering as it is able to carry out joining of dam liners within the shortest time possible. Advantages of hot wedge welding machine include, uniformity in welding, clean and neat job, more work is completed within a short period of time, reduced cost of labour, and reduced welding error.
How the hot wedge welder works
Hot wedge welder has heated metal wedge that is used to provide the required heat for melting the dam liners. During dam liner installation, this dam liner welding machine is carefully and accurately positioned at the joining point as the two dam liner sheets are pulled across the heated wedge. The machine has wheels which it then uses to move at determined speed. The machine can move at maximum speed of 0.5m-8m per minute. The temperature of the wedge is highly controlled and can range between 400°C to 500°C.
The weld is then placed under pressure from rollers. In some instances, pressure is applied by the technician himself, to form a smooth-seamed weld. Because pinch rollers are usually part of the welding machine, the dam liners can be joined together without a tracking table.
