Dam liner is a special type of plastic geo membranes used widely for retaining liquids. They are mostly used by farmers for storage of irrigation water and drinking water for animals and fish farming. Dam liners are also used widely by engineers in civil engineers and mining.
Dam liners are manufactured in different forms, mainly HDPE, LLDPE and PVC. They also come in different thicknesses i.e 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.75mm, 0.8mm and 1.0mm. Also worth noting is that all dam liners sold in the Kenyan market are black in colour. The choice of what dam liner to use will depend on the intended job (Volume of water targeted, and nature of soil). Please consult your technician or engineer to assist in selection.
All manufactured dam liners must be UV treated to increase their lifespan. Depending on the thickness and gauge, uv treated dam liners have a lifespan of between 10-30 years. Dam liners without UV treatment will start disintegrating 1 year after installation. Dam liners should also be made from virgin materials, withstand harsh climate, be stable and a must be affordable to the end use.
